A riverside home with a focus on natural materials and thoughtful finishes, crafted to display a generous art collection, and the incredible views beyond

There's a key moment when you step through the front door of the Gallery House and see straight through to the Kennebecasis River. The entry is framed by a tall glass door set in cedar shingles and stone, and the view hits you before you've even taken a step inside.

Ebony Marvin Modern windows line an entire side of this modern riverside home

Designed by Acre Architects, this home in Rothesay, NB was completed by RIVIR Builders for clients with a serious art collection. Every corridor, threshold, and opening has been thought about carefully: how light enters, where the eye goes, what you feel as the house shifts from stone to wood to glass.

The entry sequence is almost entirely stone. Rough-cut walls, flagstone floors, cedar ceiling overhead. Then it opens up. Marvin Modern windows face the river on the water side, floor-to-ceiling, and the afternoon light through those frames is something else.

The floating staircase is worth stopping for: oak treads set between two stone walls with a vertical window running the full height.

Out the side door, you'll find a huge covered outdoor kitchen and stone fireplace with a wood ceiling.

Elements in each room have been designed to embrace the view. From the Eames Lounge Chair in the reading nook to the elevated seating arrangement in the kitchen, right up to the primary bedroom & bathroom - everything is oriented towards the water.

Cedar shingles, local stone, warm interior millwork and dark Marvin frames throughout. A simple palette for a creative home with a lot to offer.
