An elevated outbuilding for storage, gathering and guest space, with panoramic views carried through the Marvin Ultimate line

Set beside its sister project, The Sheds of Charlotte County, The Boat Shed takes on a different role while carrying forward the same thoughtful design language. The general contractor, Rivir Builders, describes it as a generous main-level garage for boats and cars, with living quarters above that include a bespoke spiral staircase, strong natural materials, and the same panoramic views that define the main house. Acre Architects led the design, and photography is by Julian Parkinson.
What makes this project especially interesting is how much it asks of an accessory structure. It is not just storage. It is workshop, hangout space, guest space, and a place to take in the water. That mix of utility and comfort comes through clearly in the form of the building, which feels clean and purposeful from the outside, then much warmer and more expressive once you get inside.
We were proud to supply the Marvin Ultimate windows and doors for the project. That collection is a strong fit here because it pairs the durability of an aluminum-clad exterior with the warmth of wood interiors, which works especially well in a building like this. The large gable glass brings in the long coastal views and gives the upper level its standout moment, while the other openings keep the interior bright without losing the quiet, grounded feel of the architecture.
There is also a nice contrast at work throughout the project. The exterior feels strong and almost industrial in places, suited to the building’s practical use, while the interior softens with wood surfaces, warmer finishes, and carefully framed views. The Marvin package helps bridge those two sides. It supports the harder-working character of the building while still making the living spaces feel generous, calm, and very easy to spend time in.
