How Acre Architects and Rivir Builders used stone, wood, and expansive glass to create a charming & warm riverside retreat.

Set along the banks of the St. Croix River, Rivers Edge is a carefully considered modern homestead that balances contemporary design with the character of its coastal New Brunswick setting.

Designed by Acre Architects and built by Rivir Builders, the home blends natural materials, strong geometry, and expansive glazing to create a residence that feels both refined and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Overlooking the water, the home features Marvin™ windows supplied by Ultimate Windows, Doors & More. The generous use of glass offers sweeping river views, filling each interior space with natural light, and creating a seamless relationship between indoors and out.

The design establishes a strong visual foundation through the use of traditional stone at the lower level, anchoring the home to the landscape. Above, vertical wood cladding introduces a more modern interpretation of classic ranch-inspired materials, adding warmth and texture without overwhelming the form.

Large window openings and sliding doors extend the living spaces outward, opening onto multiple patio spaces that encourage multi-season indoor and outdoor living. The result is a home that feels solid and protected, yet open and responsive to its environment.

Why Marvin Was the Right Choice

For a project of this scale, windows were not simply a functional requirement but a defining architectural element. Marvin Windows became a clear choice, providing an unmatched level of craftsmanship, trust and longevity.

Uninterrupted Vistas

True to its name, Rivers Edge embraces its location. Large-scale Marvin window units allow the river to become a constant presence within the home, shifting with the seasons from dense summer greens to snow-covered winter landscapes.

Aesthetic Balance

The clean lines and minimal profiles of the Marvin frames complement the rugged stone exterior while reinforcing the home’s modern character. The windows enhance the architecture without competing.

Performance for the Maritimes

New Brunswick’s climate demands durability. Despite the expansive glass openings, Marvin’s engineering and high-performance materials ensure reliable thermal performance, keeping the home comfortable through cold winters, high winds, and coastal rain.

Bringing the Outside In

Inside, the impact of the glazing is immediate. Floor-to-ceiling glass dissolves the boundary between the main living spaces and the riverbank beyond, creating a sense of calm and connection to the landscape.

From the first morning light that awakens the primary bedroom and kitchen, to rosy sunsets that blanket the pastures surrounding this home, glass plays a key role in defining how it's experienced. By prioritizing connection to the site, Rivers Edge achieves a timeless balance between modern living and natural context.
